How to install your ShadeSlide™ visor extension

Installing ShadeSlide™ takes under 60 seconds and requires no tools, screws, or adhesive of any kind. Watch the video above for a full visual walkthrough, or follow the written steps below. The process is identical for the Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 versions.

Before you start

Check that you have selected the correct unit for your vehicle and side — driver's side and passenger's side units are mirror images of each other and are not interchangeable. If you ordered the driver + passenger set, install one side at a time.

Step-by-step installation

Step 1 — Fold down and unclip the sun visor Pull your factory sun visor fully down. Then unclip it from the side window catch — this is the small clip that holds the outer end of the visor against the headliner when it's in the raised position. Unclipping the visor frees the outer edge and gives you clear access to attach ShadeSlide™. The visor remains attached to the car at its pivot point — you are only releasing the outer clip.

Step 2 — Hook the bottom edge of ShadeSlide™ Hold ShadeSlide™ with the branded face toward the windshield — not facing you. Bring the bottom edge of the unit down onto the bottom edge of your factory visor, hooking it into place. The branded face should sit against the visor surface, facing the glass. Start from this bottom edge first — this is the anchor point that everything else clips around. Make sure the bottom hook is seated flush along the full length of the visor edge before moving to the next step.

Step 3 — Snap the top clip into place With the bottom edge hooked, rotate ShadeSlide™ upward and press the top clip firmly onto the top edge of the visor until it snaps into place. You will feel and hear a definite click when it is fully seated. Apply even pressure along the top edge to make sure the clip engages fully from end to end.

Step 4 — Clip the visor back to the headliner Re-clip the outer end of your factory visor back into the side window catch on the headliner. ShadeSlide™ is now fully installed. Fold the visor back up — it will sit flat against the headliner with ShadeSlide™ attached and ready to use.

Using ShadeSlide™

To extend: pull the inner slide panel outward toward the side window. The panel glides smoothly along the housing rails, extending your shade coverage toward the B-pillar. Deploy it whenever the sun is at a low angle through your side window.

To retract: push the slide panel back into the housing toward the center of the visor. It sits fully recessed inside the housing when not in use — flush, clean, and out of the way.

The housing remains clipped to your factory visor at all times. Only the inner slide panel moves during normal use.

Troubleshooting

The fit feels tight on the first few uses. This is normal and expected. The PETG rails are precision-fit to your visor profile and will smooth out after 5–10 slides. Do not force it — use steady, even pressure and it will break in naturally.

ShadeSlide™ doesn't sit flush against my visor. Confirm you have the correct model for your vehicle — Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 units are not interchangeable. Also confirm you have the correct side — driver's and passenger's units are mirrored. If the issue persists, contact us before returning.

The unit feels loose after installation. Make sure the rails are fully seated by pushing the unit all the way inward until it locks. If it still feels loose, contact us — we can send a replacement unit if needed

I ordered the wrong size. Contact us through the Contact Us page and we will get the correct unit sent out to you.

Care and maintenance

ShadeSlide™ requires no maintenance. If it gets dusty or dirty, wipe it down with a soft dry cloth. Do not use solvent-based cleaners as these can affect the PETG surface. The unit is UV-resistant and will not yellow or become brittle with normal sun exposure.
